Midge

Midge having a well-deserved nap in Queen's Gardens
Yes, he really was asleep like this. I heard him snoring and making wuffling sounds.

Midge, we think, is the king of all of the Hull tramps. He is seen far and wide, from Cottingham to town, on buses, on the street, in Queen's Gardens park. He has more than one coat (a black donkey jacket and a tweed jacket that he wears when in Cottingham), and a shopping trolley covered with cardboard sheets that are always adorned with strangely obscure scribblings.

Some of Midge's finer cardboard placards have been;

"Bent like a head pulse"
"My son in this bed"
"My son awaits; licensed to kill upstairs"
"Armed Forces" (worn like a badge on his lapel)

He also did a series of placards placed on a row of lamp posts leading up to Hull Fair last year. Let's hope he does it again this year.

Midge is ace. He has a voice like a reptile and stinks, and has an obscure mind. We love him.
